Dr. Paddy Iyamu, Edo State’s Education Commissioner has stated that over 1,000 students have returned to public schools from private schools attributing it to improved quality of education and the state government’s free education policy.
He added that the government plans to build more schools to increase access to education for more children in the state.
,
The commissioner who stated this in a chat with journalists in Benin City on Sunday, stated that 68 schools have also been renovated to make the learning environment convenient for students.
He said those claiming that no such number of schools have been rebuilt should go to the schools and verify, noting that the information is with the ministry.
He said, “Since the administration of Governor Okpebholo came in, 25 schools have been recovered from land grabbers. The state needs more schools for the kids and the move was the right one to take.
“The government has also renovated or rebuilt 68 schools and those who claim this is false should go and verify. The record is with the ministry.
“Over 1,000 students migrated from private schools into public schools in the state in the last one year as a result of the rebuilding and renovation of public schools by the present administration.
“The governor has made it clear that we must give the children of the poor a seat at the table of success and in the last academic session
“For instance in Army Day Secondary School had about 502 students, Evbareke had about 350, while Uyiosa was labeled a dead school. But today we have over 3000 students in those schools now.
“The number of students who migrated from private to public schools was over 1000 but we are being modest so that people won’t accuse us of brandishing unsubstantiated numbers. So, it goes to show you the commitment of His Excellency.
