A disturbing incident of violence against women has emerged in Benin City, Edo State capital, where Yakubu Favour, a female staff member of Airen Pharmacy on Airport Road, was brutally beaten, resulting in severe injuries and internal bleeding and subsequently abandoned at the hospital.
The plight of Yakubu Favour, who hails from Okpella in Etsako East LGA, was brought to public attention through a petition signed by Enabulele Mariam, a relative of the victim, and submitted to the Edo State Police Commissioner.
According to the petition, Osazuwa John, a male colleague at Airen Pharmacy, allegedly assaulted Yakubu Favour with extreme brutality, nearly killing her, with the assistance of other pharmacy staff on duty on July 22, 2025, without any apparent justification.
The alleged assault left Yakubu Favour severely battered, struggling to breathe on the ground due to the intense physical violence she endured.
Despite Favour’s critical state, Osazuwa John allegedly continued to trample on her while she was on the ground, exacerbating her injuries and causing severe internal damage and profuse bleeding. Other staff members were accused of aiding and abetting the assault.
Yakubu Favour who was admitted at the Military Hospital, Airport Road, Benin City is still in terrible situation as she has undergone major operations as a result of the inhuman treatment metes on her.
What’s particularly disturbing is that Yakubu Favour has been abandoned in the hospital, with neither Osazuwa John nor Airen Pharmacy management showing concern for her medical treatment or willingness to cover her expenses. The management reportedly believes they are above accountability, seemingly unbothered even if the victim’s condition worsens or she dies.
In a reaction ,the management of Airen pharmacy in a statement clarified that the Pharmacy has a policy of handling the treatment, medical needs and welfare of staff which Miss Favour Yakubu has enjoyed for over five years
It explained that the recent development was an isolated case because the medical bills and treatment were paid by the other staff she was involved in a brawl with, maintaining that the company has zero tolerance for staff engaging in any physical altercation with other staff or with customers.
The statement added that has a law-abiding organisation, the management promptly handed over the accused to the police, Airport Road Division, Benin City for investigation and possible prosecution.
It stated that despite the regrettable incident, which constitutes a gross misconduct and violates the company’s rules and policies, Airen Pharmacy Nigeria Limited will continue to pay the salary of Miss Yakubu, in addition to assigning a specific representative of the Company to visit and attend to her welfare while in the hospital before she is discharged.
