A Group within the Oredo Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), known as Concerned APC Group, has expressed concerns over alleged lopsided appointments and dictatorial tendencies by the party’s State Secretary, Lawrence Okah.
The Concerned APC Group had during a press Conference by the Group Coordinator , Osamuyi Osadiaye
alleged that 11 wards in Oredo Local Government Area are being marginalized in appointment allocations, with only Ward 7, Lawrence Okah’s ward, being favored.
The group’s coordinator, Osamuyi Osadiaye, stated that they won’t stand idly by while one individual dominates the party’s affairs in the local government.
The Concerned APC Group cited numerous complaints from party members about marginalization in appointments, highlighting that several key positions are concentrated in Ward 7, including: State Secretary,
- Local Government Chairman
- Assistant Treasurer
- Publicity Secretary
- Member representing Edo South in Oil and Gas (who is reportedly Lawrence Okah’s son)
These allegations suggest a perceived favoritism towards Ward 7, where Lawrence Okah hails from.
Other positions are three Senior Special Assistants, two Special Assistants to the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, 15 Oredo revenue collectors, Supervisory Councillor, Oredo and more.
”This imbalance political appointments is threatening the unity and progress of APC in Oredo. We therefore, call on His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo to ensure fair and inclusive appointments across all wards in Oredo”.
The group described Lawrence Okah’s actions as undemocratic and contrary to principles of fairness, equity, and inclusion. They are calling for urgent intervention to prevent further alienation and crisis within the Oredo APC, particularly at the grassroots level.
The group alleged that Lawrence Okah is boasting of using his closeness to Governor Monday Okpebholo to impose Gabriel Iduseri from Ward 7 as the next Oredo Local Government Council Chairman. They urged the governor and party leaders to investigate the allegations and ensure a level playing field for all aspirants, rather than allowing imposition.
