Ambrose Alli University Eikpoma’s Professor Benson O. Iganiga, a distinguished Professor of Economics, has advocated for a radical overhaul of Nigeria’s national economic policy to drastically reduce the country’s excessive governance costs, which he described as a significant drain on the nation’s resources.
Professor Iganiga made this call while delivering the 124th Inaugural Lecture, titled “Turning the Corners: The Dilemma of Within and Without Macroeconomic Policy Reforms and Poverty in Nigeria.”
Prof Iganiga frowned at Nigeria’s National Economic policy that favours excessive cost of governance as against policies of job creation, poverty reduction, infrastructural development among others.
”Turning the corners of Macroeconomic Policies that Nigeroa has embarked on will require all the right Macroeconomic Policies from within(home) garnished by without reforms(imported, adjusted and transformed) to reduce poverty will achieve the long-term goal of a Prosperous economy when jobs are created and human development is significantly improved”.
Declaring the Inaugural Lecture open, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Prof Sunday Olowo Samuel, who was represented by Prof Mrs Eunice Omoregie said the theme and the content of the lecture could not have come at a better date than now that Nigerians are battling with high economic hardship.
The University AVC then called on the government, policy formulations and other stake holders to initiate and implement people friendly Policies as recommended in the Lecture note.
Highpoint of the event was the decoration of the guest lecturer, Professor Benson Iganiga as well as his admittance into the community of academic giants.
