‎Two Edo Lawyers, Ozekhomhe , Isenalumhe  Appointed  Life Benchers

‎Two prominent  legal practitioners from Edo state are amongst the privileged  who were recently  appointed as Life Benchers.


‎They are prominent human rights activist, Chiefs Mike Ozekhomhe and  Rasak Isenalumhe.


‎The legal profession recently announced the confirmation of 13 distinguished legal luminary in the country  as  life benchers.


‎Coincidentally, the duo are from Etsako axis of Edo north senatorial district of the state.


‎Edo north district has had the privilege of producing  the National president of the Nigerian Bar Association  (NBA), Austin Aleghe , the first Edo person to be voted for an exotic office while Bar Isenalumhe was also a former state chairman of the Bar Association.




‎Chief Ozekhomhe, a highly respected High chief hails from Weppa kingdom in Etsako East LGA of Edo north of Edo state.


‎He started his educational career at the home front at  St Peter grammar school Agebode . In continuation of his love for home front, chief Ozekhomhe is a member of Etsako club 8,  an home base association.


‎Bar Isenalumhe  hails from Etsako West LGA , a former chairman of Edo NBA from  2010  to 2012.


‎In recognition of his love for community service, he was at a time the president of his community union, Anwain Progressive Union.



‎The Body of Benchers, currently chaired by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo  formally announced the new life members on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the meeting of the body held at its head office in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.


‎ Amongst those confirmed are Director General, Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Chiroma; Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage; retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Ejembi Eko and former United Nations Special Rapporteur on Trafficking persons in Africa, Prof. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo life benchers.


‎With the newly confirmed life benchers, the total number of life benchers in the country has now risen to 170, a cap set for the next five years before new life members would be admitted into the body of practitioners of the highest distinction in the legal profession.
