Hon. Damian Lawani has been appointed as the Chairman of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission.
The announcement was made public through a press statement issued by the office of the Edo State Secretary to the Government, Mr Musa Ikhilor.
According to the statement, the appointment is subject to confirmation by the state assembly.
Hon. Lawani a legal practitioner,is a well-known political ally of the reinstated Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Philip Shaibu.
His appointment does not come as a surprise, given that the state governor, Sen. Monday Okpevbolo, has shown no hesitation in populating his administration with the cronies and associates of prominent political figures who supported his candidacy.
In particular influence of the ‘Shaibu boys’ has been steadily increasing since the advent of the Okpevbolo administration.
Hon. Lawani previously represented the Etsako Central constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly and later served as a commissioner during the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
He will be succeeding Prince Tijani Ugbodaga, who also hails from the Etsako Central area.
The Edo State Local Government Service Commission was established under the Edo State Local Government Law, which was enacted by the state assembly in December 2000.
The law outlines the structure, functions, powers, and funding of the Commission in managing the local government workforce.
