School resumption; Parents are not complaining about fuel hike, –Edo APC

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the state government’s decision to indefinitely suspend the resumption date for schools due to the recent fuel price hike.
Describing the move as “expensive political gimmickry,” the party accused the government of exploiting the situation for political purposes.
The original school resumption date, set for September 9, was postponed by the Ministry of Education through a memo issued by its Permanent Secretary, Ojo Akin-Longe, with no new date provided.

The APC’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Peter Uwadiae-Enosorogbe, expressed the party’s discontent in a statement to the News Agency of Nigeria, describing the government’s decision as unnecessary and politically motivated.

He argued that the delay in reopening schools was not in response to any genuine concerns from the public. “Nobody is protesting the hike, and no parents have complained that they cannot take their children to school for learning,” Uwadiae-Enosorogbe said, calling into question the rationale behind the postponement.

The APC further criticized the state government for failing to provide a clear justification for linking the hike in fuel prices to the suspension of school activities. The party emphasized that while the fuel price increase is affecting many sectors, it should not be used as an excuse to disrupt the education of children in the state.

He said: “Nobody is protesting the hike and no parents have complained that they cannot take their children to school for learning. This is not adding up.
